The Future of Hunting and Fishing Project

The Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports has commissioned a study with Dr. Loren Chase, of Chase and Chase Consulting, to examine shifts in demographics of cohorts of hunters and anglers through time. Building on a foundation of cohort analysis from 1992 to 2012, this current phase of the project will examine license sales trends from 2012 to 2017.

The Future of Hunting and Fishing Project is designed to:

  1. Understand the declines in hunting and fishing license sales, in an effort to better influence the future trajectories of wildlife conservation revenues and to inform strategies to recruit, retain and reactivate outdoor recreationists
  2. Convey the immediacy of the financial challenge the conservation community faces
  3. Issue a call to action to continue the American heritage of hunting and fishing.

Videos, such as the one below provided by Arizona Game and Fish Department, illustrate the shift in age demographics of license buyers. New videos and inforgraphics will be shared with partners to help illustrate the recent shifts in participation at the end of this study.
